The Sargent Center Welcomes New Consultation Partner, Dr. Dana Osowiecki, Ph.D.

The Sargent Center is pleased to announce a new partnership with Dr. Dana Osowiecki, Ph.D., who will be joining the organization as a consultation partner to support the development of a new program, the CORE Academy at the Sargent Center. Dr. Osowiecki brings over 25 years of experience in neuropsychology, clinical psychology, trauma-informed practice, and school-based interventions for emotional and behavioral regulation. She is the creator of the CORE Coping® therapeutic model — an approach rooted in Connection, Observation, Respect, and Engagement, designed to enhance self-regulation, autonomy, and emotional safety for learners and staff.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser: Another Win for the Dinosaurs

We are so grateful to everyone who supported the Krispy Kreme Fundraiser to benefit our Sargent Center Dinosaurs! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we sold a total of 108 dozen doughnuts – an amazing accomplishment that will directly support our Special Olympics athletes. A very special shout-out to Stacey Emilyta who helped spread the word and sell 33 dozen doughnuts! Thanks to everyone who helped support – your dedication and enthusiasm make a huge impact. Autism Awareness Field Day

We had an Autism Awareness Field Day organized by Gabriel, a senior at North Kingstown High School. Inspired by his brother Nico, a student at Sargent, Gabriel wanted to create an inclusive event promoting autism awareness. Our students participated in activities including painting rocks, a parachute game, sensory putty, and an obstacle course. At each station, Gabriel had switch buttons with recordings and infographics about what autism is, sensory differences, different communication styles, and the unique strengths and talents of individuals with autism.

Celebrating Valentines Day with Kindness

Our school celebrated Valentine’s Day with creativity, connection, and kindness. Classrooms created and exchanged handmade valentines and dressed in reds, pinks, and hearts. We also welcomed Theta Delta Chi, who visited to create Valentine’s Day crafts with students. The carnations were another highlight, giving everyone the opportunity to show appreciation while raising donations supporting the Sargent Center Dinosaurs. Savers FUNDrive to Benefit the Sargent Center Dinosaurs is a Success

Thank you to everyone who supported the Savers FUNDrive! Thanks to your generosity, we collected 173 bags of clothing and household items that were donated to Savers this past weekend. Proceeds from this fundraiser will directly benefit the Sargent Center Dinosaurs Special Olympics Team. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who cleaned out closets, spread the word, and showed up to donate. Special thanks to our coaches, Charlotte and Casey, for their hard work organizing another successful event. The support of our community truly makes a difference for our Dinosaurs – thank you for helping them continue to thrive!

Girls Social Group with Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority

Sargent Center Dinosaurs Compete in Duckpin Bowling Tournament

This weekend the Sargent Center Dinosaurs competed in the Special Olympics RI Duckpin Bowling Tournament at Meadowbrook Lanes in Warwick. Our athletes showcased their teamwork and determination – congratulations to Boh, Cristiano, Jakob, Jamie, Mukund, Nico, and Shinbi on another successful tournament! JWU Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program Technology & Innovation in OT Course

Students from the JWU Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program visited Sargent Center as part of their Technology & Innovation in Occupational Therapy course. In collaboration with our Occupational Therapy and Speech departments, JWU students explored the hands-on assistive technology used throughout our school. Our therapists also shared a presentation highlighting tools that support students’ executive function, activities of daily living, community participation, academics, and communication.

Sargent Center Supports Veterans Through Ocean State Job Lot’s “Buy-Give-Get” Program 2025

Sargent Center is once again participating in Ocean State Job Lot’s Buy-Give-Get Program! This initiative aims to support veterans in need through donated winter coats. This year, we will contribute $2,500 to purchase new winter coats, which are donated and distributed to veterans in need.
