A Comprehensive Program in Educational and Therapeutic Intervention
The Sargent Center offers a specialized school program for students who are having difficulty coping with the demands of their classroom due to social, emotional, and behavioral health issues.
The program serves as an alternative placement or as a bridge between an inpatient behavioral health hospitalization and a student’s return to their community school. The program has been successful as an alternative school placement that prevents hospitalizations. The Clinical Program is staffed by a team of professionals including regular and special educators, social workers, and behavior analysts.
Strategies
The team specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents who have social-emotional/ Behavioral health issues due to risk factors including peer relationships. Pressure to conform in the classroom and the community, exploration of sexual identity, increased access to and use of technology, violence/abuse/bullying, anxiety, and socioeconomic problems.
The Clinical Program at The Sargent Center offers an intensive education/therapeutic treatment approach. Providing students with instruction in strategy and self-management skills to cope with difficult situations, strengthen their capacity to regulate emotions, and help them identify a supportive social network.
Transition
The academic component of the program is aligned with each student’s community school curriculum, allowing students to build confidence and experience success when they return to school. Coordination with each student's community school team optimizes a seamless transition.
The model of care is short-term, however, opportunities for longer team placement are available based on the student’s needs.
