Philosophy
At the Sargent Center, our goal is to provide all students the opportunity to actively participate in Physical Education (PE). Our educators provide both Physical Education and Adaptive Physical Education (APE) instruction tailored to fit the unique needs of each student both developmentally and physically.
Approach
Our Adaptive Physical Educators focus on gross motor skills, spatial awareness, manipulative/object control skills, the components of fitness (muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility), coordination and balance, and developmentally appropriate locomotor skills (running, jumping, leaping, skipping, and hopping).
Our physical education instruction is built around the National Physical Education Standards and utilizes a variety of assessment tools to best meet the needs of each student. Health Education lessons are conducted quarterly to promote healthy life skills.
