Philosophy
At Sargent Center, we believe in the social and emotional well-being of all our students. Our team provides our students with empirically-based social skill programs tailored to meet their individual needs. Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) programs include group lessons as well as individual counseling sessions with teachers and staff that help to reinforce the following SEL standards: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Understanding emotions and learning coping strategies is central to our lessons.
Approach
Evaluations play an important role in understanding a student's strengths and areas of need. Our evaluation process includes a comprehensive view of the student’s social and emotional skills. These results inform the development of a high-quality Individual Education Plan (IEP), which serves as a customized roadmap for the student's interventions, supports, and accommodations. We offer consultations to teachers, staff, outside providers, and parents to address individual student needs.
